La Crosse, WI – It will be extremely cold across central Wisconsin tonight as a wind chill advisory goes into effect. Temperatures are expected to drop to dangerous levels, with wind chills reaching between -25° and -35°.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory begins at 9 p.m. Saturday and continues through Monday afternoon for some areas. Affected counties include La Crosse, Jackson, Monroe and Trempealeau. Exposure to these cold conditions can cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities and dress in layers if going out is unavoidable. The NWS emphasizes the importance of hats, gloves, and insulated clothing to prevent exposure-related injuries. Pet owners are advised to keep animals indoors during the advisory.
Drivers should also exercise caution, as extreme cold can affect vehicle performance. An emergency preparedness kit with blankets, water, and a flashlight is recommended for travelers.
The temperature is expected to improve slightly by Monday afternoon. Until then, Wisconsin residents should prepare for the coldest weather of the season.
