The Roseland Police Department received a 911 call, reporting a dog tied to the median on I-280, less than two weeks ago. Arriving on scene, Officers Lupo and Bell found the dog, a seven-month-old cockapoo, chained to the guardrail – wet from the snow and shivering.
The officers transported the dog to police headquarters where they removed a string that had been tied around the puppy’s snout. His coat was in terrible condition, had iced over from being out in the snow and the freezing temperatures, and when he walked he limped as a result a broken femur. There was little doubt the puppy had been neglected for months. Further examinations and X-rays indicated the puppy had another broken limb at one point that had already healed.
It was the Big Dog Rescue Project who took ownership of the dog, making sure he had the medical procedures needed to repair his injuries.
The puppy has since been named Golden.
The dog was suffering from what responders believed to be 2 broken legs and his jaw wired shut. Police responded and immediately took the dog to Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) in West Caldwell, NJ. Upon examination it was determined the dog had 1 broken leg and the other leg was previously broken in multiple places, indicating a history of abuse.
The puppy has since received the medical care he needed and has been placed in a foster home where he’s captured the hearts of his temporary family. Many thanks to local government, animal lovers and the community for helping out.
According to News12, Joanne Edison, his foster mom, agrees that Golden is a wonderful dog and gets along fine with her other dog and their two children.

The police officer, who came to Golden’s rescue is interested in giving this very special pup a forever home.
It is illegal in all 50 states to abandon a pet. There are many pathways open to making sure a pet is safe and cared for if a family is forced to surrender their animal. Be kind.
