Poland Considers Sending Western Troops to Ukraine Amid Russian Invasion
French and Slovak Leaders Support Potential Involvement of NATO in Ukraine Conflict
According to Miami Herald, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has hinted at the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion, aligning with recent remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron. Speaking at Poland’s parliament, Sikorski praised Macron’s proposal, suggesting that it could prompt Russian President Vladimir Putin to reconsider his strategies. The discussion around deploying Western troops to Ukraine has gained traction, with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also mentioning the potential involvement of NATO and EU member states in supporting Ukraine militarily.
Macron’s stance on supporting Ukraine was reiterated following a meeting with Czech President Petr Pavel, where he emphasized the need for Western countries to stand firm in their backing of Ukraine. However, he stressed the importance of avoiding escalation with Russia. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has strongly opposed any talk of sending Western troops to Ukraine, warning that such actions would be crossing a “red line.” Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service head, Sergei Naryshkin, criticized European leaders for their discussions on troop deployment, citing concerns about political irresponsibility and a lack of negotiation skills.
