Invest in Kids Tax Credit Increase in Students, Donations and School Participation in Final Year
Over $90 Million Contributed to Illinois Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Program, Despite Drop in Number of Donors
According to Chicago Tribune, in its last year before ending, the Invest in Kids tax credit scholarship program in Illinois saw more students getting scholarships, more money donated and more schools joining. Over 15,000 students got scholarships, which was 56% more than before. People gave over $90 million to the program, even though the number of donations went down a bit.

Calls for Equity in Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Allocation Spark Debate Over Education Funding Priorities
One group called Empower Illinois gave out most of the money to around 10,000 students. But some people were worried because not many Black students got scholarships. Others, like State Rep. Will Guzzardi, think the money should go to public schools instead of private ones. Now, with the program over, some schools are closing and there’s a big debate about what should happen next for education in Illinois.
