A sleepy driver caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage to a South Bay guitar store early Tuesday when he crashed through the glass storefront.

The motorist, according to OnScene.TV, is believed to have fallen asleep while behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla at around 12:15 a.m. when the vehicle ended up inside Mark’s Guitar Exchange, 945 Otay Lakes Road.

He had just left a nearby Jack in the Box drive-through with his food before the wreck.

The Chula Vista police and fire departments responded to the scene. Medics took the driver to the hospital following the crash. His condition is unknown, but he communicated with police following the crash, OnScene reported.

The owner said the damage to the guitars and other equipment will be over $100,000, but did not have an estimate on the structural damage to the store.
