5 people are facing serious charges for using drones to smuggle drugs into a federal prison

Multiple people are facing charges after flying drones into a Louisiana prison that had drugs and other contraband.

Apparently this had been an ongoing issue.

The topic of flying drones has been popular for a number of years. Of course, this has been more the case recently due to the mysterious ones flying over New Jersey. However, one story out of Louisiana finds several people facing charges after flying drones carrying contraband into a federal prison in Louisana. In many ways, this is among the silliest ways to wind up behind bars.

Flying drones is already a somewhat controversial activity because of recent events

Federal prisons are among the most secure institutions in the United States. Because of this, it should be considered reasonably foolish to attempt smuggling contraband into them. Still, many do. According to KPLC TV, people flying drones into a prison in Grant Parish, Louisiana, equipped with drugs and phones had become an issue. This was so much so that they began an investigation. This included the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Rapides Area Drug Enforcement.

Following the investigation into drones flying into the prison, multiple people face various punishment levels for the offense. Readers should also note that the authorities confiscated about $12,000, which they believe is part of what they earned from the criminal drug activity. As mentioned, five people were involved, the youngest being 17 and the oldest 35.

Regarding their charges with the police for being involved with flying the drones, they include five things. They are the distribution of marijuana, taking contraband into a penal institution, criminal conspiracy, accessory after the fact, and criminal trespassing. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is said to have a detainer on one of the people involved.
