Shreveport, LA – The arctic blast will bring dangerously cold air to parts of the south overnight, with warnings in effect until 8am Sunday. Temperatures are expected to be 10 to 15 degrees lower in northeast Texas, northwest Louisiana, southwest Arkansas and southeast Oklahoma.
According to the National Weather Service, a cold weather advisory includes areas along the I-30 and I-20 corridors. Cities like Texarkana, Shreveport and El Dorado will experience the harshest conditions. Prolonged exposure to wind can cause hypothermia in any person.
Residents are urged to exercise caution. Officials recommend wearing insulated clothing, a hat and gloves when going out. Portable heaters should be used with caution to prevent fire hazards, and outdoor generators or grills should never be used indoors.
Pet owners are advised to keep animals inside during the advisory. Additionally, testing of vulnerable individuals such as elderly neighbors is strongly encouraged.
The cold weather is expected to subside after sunrise on Sunday, but residents should remain vigilant overnight.
