INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Central Indiana residents are urged to prepare for life-threatening cold temperatures by Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory, predicting wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory takes effect at 7 p.m. Sunday and remains active until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Dangerously low wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin within 30 minutes. The coldest winds will occur at night, although daytime temperatures may temporarily push wind chills above zero.

The advisory affects central, east-central and west-central Indiana, including cities like Indianapolis, Lafayette, Muncie and Bloomington. Residents of affected areas are advised to wear insulated clothing, hats and gloves when going out. Hypothermia is a significant risk if proper precautions are not taken.

Travelers should take extra precautions and keep emergency kits ready for their vehicles. The NWS recommends limiting outdoor exposure, especially during nighttime hours when wind chill is at its worst.
