The state loves college football and produces a lot of steel piping. When planning a trip to Alabama, it’s important to know which areas might be risky. Here are some of the most dangerous cities in Alabama for 2024, where you should be careful.

Troy

Troy is a small town with about 19,000 residents. It has a violent crime rate of 445 per 100,000 people, which is double the national average. Property crimes are also high, with 676 incidents per 100,000 people. While violent crimes have gone down, property crimes have increased recently. It’s best to stay in well-lit, busy areas during the day and be cautious at night. Don’t show off valuables or carry large sums of money.

Gadsden

Gadsden is an industrial city with 36,300 residents. It has a violent crime rate of 1,000 per 100,000 people, 179% higher than the U.S. average. Property crime is also high. It’s generally safe during the day, but solo female travelers should be careful at night. Public transportation is safe for getting around the city.

Selma

Selma has 19,500 residents and is known for its Civil Rights history. It has a high crime rate, especially related to drugs and gangs. Prichard

Prichard has about 22,300 residents and a violent crime rate 2.1 times the national average. While crime has dropped by 32% since 2017, the violent crime rate is still 1,193 per 100,000 people.
