They celebrate achievements like capping insulin costs at $35 for Medicare patients and out-of-pocket spending on brand-name drugs at $2,000 yearly, according to the report of ABC News. Medicare can now negotiate drug prices. They call for further action, including expanding Medicare’s negotiation to 50 drugs and capping prescription drug out-of-pocket costs at $2,000 for all Americans.
The bipartisan nature of the issue was highlighted as Biden expressed surprise that not a single Republican voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which aims to tackle high healthcare costs. The President also took the opportunity to criticize congressional Republicans and his predecessor for their views on Social Security, the Affordable Care Act, the national deficit, abortion access, and more.
