A 40-year-old Colorado man has been convicted of killing his roommate and co-worker in 2019 by fatally strangling him.
The Attorney’s Office for the Fifth District in Colorado announced on March 8, 2024, that the court found Miles Tovar, a Colorado man guilty of reckless manslaughter and first-degree criminal trespass
The case of the Colorado man was in connection with the death of Brendan Rye. Colorado man was found not guilty of first-degree burglary and another count of first-degree criminal trespass. Colorado man faces one to three years imprisonment for criminal trespass and two to six years for reckless manslaughter when he is sentenced on May 9, 2024.
In November 2019, at about 10 in the evening, a co-worker called the police after finding Rye unresponsive in their condominium where they were temporarily living with a Colorado man while renovating it as subcontractors. Police located Rye in the bathroom, and he was later pronounced dead.
According to the attorney’s office of Colorado, the owner of the condo unit lived near the men and invited them over for dinner to thank them for the work they had been doing. During dinner, Tovar, a Colorado man reportedly became heavily intoxicated and he was asked to leave. He kept returning to the owner’s home that night, prompting Rye to steer him back to their home multiple times.

During the deadly encounter, a Colorado man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg
Police Investigators determined Rye died by manual strangulation, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The family and friends of the victim have waited more than four years for this justice, and they sincerely hope this is one more step in their healing process after the Colorado man was found guilty.
