Through the weekend, the FOX Forecast Centre expects the storm’s main energy to hit the central and eastern U.S.
Severe Weather Over the Weekend
This week’s huge storm is threatening more than 30 states with torrential rain, heavy mountain snow, severe weather, and strong winds. The Rockies are still snowing while the Pacific Northwest is drying off after several days of rain. On Thursday, strong Plains storms will be the biggest concern. As it crosses the Plains and into the Midwest, the storm will intensify and bring several inches of rain and severe weather over the weekend.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Centre (SPC) rates northeastern Nebraska and eastern Kansas as 2 out of 5 for thunderstorm risk. Where the heaviest rain bands form during the week, flooding is a danger. The Pacific Northwest dries. Storm crosses the Rockies. You may expect lots of snow as you climb. Winter weather alerts will cover the Rockies until Thursday afternoon as the storm system spins east. Snow will make driving dangerous in Wyoming and Montana, so avoid those areas. The massive storm will hit the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes, and Northeast by Saturday. Since summer began, millions in the region have had weekend after weekend of damp weather to severe weather conditions. The FOX Forecast Centre predicts a coastal storm with extensive rain and high gusts for the Northeast and New England on Saturday and Sunday. It’s too warm for snow, so heavy rain might create flash flooding over the region. FOX Forecast Centre predicts the storm will go by Monday.
