Teton County Leads in Property Tax Refunds
According to Gillette News Record, in Wyoming, Governor Gordon and the Department of Revenue have announced that homeowners can now apply for a property tax refund program. An extra $20 million was set aside by the Legislature to help those who need it. Homeowners can get back up to half of their property taxes or 75% of what they paid in 2023 whichever is less. This is because many families in Wyoming benefited from this property tax refund program last year with over 9,000 families getting more than $8 million in refunds.
Teton County received $1.57 million in property tax refunds last year nearly 20% of the state’s total. Around 442 residents were approved for property tax refunds averaging $3,568 each. Some received aid from both state and county programs eliminating their tax burden. The property tax refund program recently expanded statewide allowing more residents to qualify. Eligible homeowners can apply online or at their local treasurer’s office meeting residency and asset requirements. The deadline is June 3 with Teton County residents able to apply in May for potential full refunds.
