The state treasurer has a lot of money that belongs to Americans, businesses, and parts of the government. They can check if there’s money for them at treasurer.sc.gov. Also the IRS says many South Carolinians are owed money from the federal government. Lots of Americans haven’t got this money because they didn’t do their tax refunds for 2020 or 2021. About 12,000 Americans are owed money from 2020 and up to 85,000 didn’t get stimulus payments they were supposed to.

The IRS thinks some Americans forgot about their tax refunds because 2020 was a weird and bad year with COVID-19. There’s help available to do taxes for free but some folks still didn’t do them. But there’s still time for those who didn’t do their taxes for 2020. They have until May 17 to do it and get their money back. It’s important to check if they’re owed money including stimulus payments and tax credits by going to the IRS website. In short many South Carolinians might be missing out on money that belongs to them. They should check both the state treasurer’s website and the IRS website to see if there’s money waiting for them. By doing this they can get back the money they’re owed which can really help during tough times like the COVID-19 pandemic.
