The disturbance began when a large group of over a hundred individuals attempted to breach a fence near El Paso, Texas, in order to enter the United States. The judge ordered them to be released without bond because the District Attorney’s Office was not prepared to have hearings for each individual.

A few people attempted to rush the border and force past security personnel, which resulted in the incident. Men were seen sprinting toward the border wall and tearing down wire in videos. However, it’s unclear how many rioters ended up behind bars. Concerns have also been raised about whether the judge’s ruling covers other counts in addition to rioting charges. The circumstance intensifies the current discussion about who is in charge at the border and how the government manages immigration-related matters.
