Discord Over Cuts as State Leaders Struggle to Agree – California’s Budget Crisis

California is facing a big problem with its money called a Budget Crisis with at least $38 billion in debt, according to Los Angeles Times published article. Governor Gavin Newsom and other top Democrats have made a plan to start fixing it in April. But here’s the catch they haven’t agreed on exactly how much money to cut only giving a range from $12 billion to $18 billion. They’ll talk more about where to cut next month.

The plan is to start cutting early by taking back money that hasn’t been spent yet delaying some programs and spending less money on others. The Senate has its own idea to cut $17 billion from the debt but the Assembly where Democrats have more say hasn’t fully gotten on board yet. It’s a tough situation because California hasn’t seen a money problem this big before.
