3. Benton Harbor A city with about 8,900 people, comes in third place on the list. It has a crime rate that’s 2.46 times higher than Michigan’s average. This means residents have a 1 in 29 chance of facing violent crime. The city deals with difficulties because many people there are poor and there are not many jobs available. The average income is around $32,000. Benton Harbor has a lot of violent crimes like murders, robberies and assaults as well as property crimes such as burglaries.

4. Jackson A city with around 32,000 people also has a lot of crime and a crime rate of 127% higher than Michigan’s average meaning residents have a 1 in 84 chance of being victims of violent crime. Common incidents in Harper Woods include murders, robberies and assaults.
