101-Year-Old U.S. Army Sergeant ‘Mr. Gene,’ Retires After Decades of Service at USAF Medical Center

101-Year-Old U.S. Army Sergeant Legacy of Service and Active Living

According to American Military News, Eugene Petersen at 101 years old retired U.S. Army Sergeant has spent almost six decades volunteering at the David Grant USAF Medical Center. Known affectionately as “Mr. Gene,” he credits Dr. Pepper for his long life. He helps manage a huge number of medical records there aiding thousands of Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries. Petersen’s journey began as a paratrooper in World War II and he later served as a U.S. Army sergeant major. After retiring he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 14 years. His daughter Linda Standage, says he’s always on the move and never letting himself get idle. Petersen stays active by hitting the gym regularly and enjoying fishing in his free time.
