A Vermont prisoner is accused of murder after an autopsy report concluded that the victim’s death stemmed from severe injuries from the beating.

Vermont Prisoner Accused of Beating Cellmate
In the news report from Seven Days, A Vermont prisoner, Mbyayenge Mafuta or Robbie, a 22-year-old man, is accused of severely beating his cellmate named Jeff Hall, a 55-year-old man.
According to the Vermont State Police, the Vermont prisoners, Mufata and Hall, had been cellmates for only a few days and were involved in an altercation in December 2022 which unfolded in their cell. The police also stated that the investigators and correctional staff heard the Vermont prisoner, Hall, crying for help. The other Vermont prisoner involved in the altercation was then seen coming out of the cell with blood on his clothes.
Hall was found without consciousness on the cell floor and died months later from injuries from the beating.

Vermont Prisoner Charges Upgraded to Murder
According to Vtdigger, the police had announced that they had received the autopsy report from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office regarding Hall’s death. The autopsy report determined the cause of the Vermont prisoner’s death was due to the blunt force trauma to his head and that his death was a homicide.
As a result, the Vermont prisoner, Mufata, was charged with second-degree murder and remains held without bail. Mufata is set to be arraigned on the 22nd of August in Franklin County Superior criminal court n St. Albans.
