A January 17-19 Harvard-Harris poll found that 80% of American voters supported Israel in the Gaza crisis. However, 20% supported Hamas. The poll included 2,346 registered voters but did not provide a margin of error.

Biden’s Iran Strategy and Broad Support for Israel Across Age Groups
65% of respondents think President Joe Biden’s Iran strategy has failed, demonstrating substantial unhappiness across age categories. Majorities of all ages supported U.S. defense strikes against Houthi terrorists in Yemen.
Younger voters had unique views on important subjects. They supported an unconditional Gaza cease-fire without Israeli captives because they felt Hamas negotiations could bring peace. They also advocated reestablishing the Palestinian Authority in Gaza to an Arab-led administration. This demographic also thought Biden’s Houthi policy was weak.
The poll found support for Israel across all age categories. Most respondents called the October Hamas attack on Israel “terrorism” and “genocidal,” calling it unacceptable. Respondents also believed Israel actively reduces civilian casualties.

Youth Perspectives Challenge Assumptions on Gaza Conflict
Many believe Hamas should be overthrown in Gaza, blaming the Iranian leadership. However, 18-24-year-olds have different views on Israel’s Gaza policy. While a majority called it “genocide,” contradicting the assumption that Israel avoids civilian losses, the study reveals an information gap in this group.
According to a second Siena College Research Institute study of 807 registered voters in New York State from January 14-17, 43% supported aid to Israel, and 45% opposed it.
The Harvard-Harris poll did not give a margin of error statistics, and attitudes on the Gaza conflict varied by age group.
