Doctor Amy Bryant Challenges North Carolina Law Requiring In-Person Visits for Abortion Pills
A doctor is questioning state laws
According to Courthouse News Service, Doctors, led by Dr. Amy Bryant, are going to court to fight North Carolina’s strict rules on abortion pills. It was filed in January 2023 and says that the state’s rules, such as guidance in person, waiting 72 hours, and getting the pill in a certain place, are not in line with what the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says about the abortion pill mifepristone. Lawyers in court talked about whether North Carolina can make rules about abortion pills that go beyond what the FDA says. On Dr. Bryant’s side, state laws that don’t follow national laws make it hard for people to get safe abortion pills. States say they can keep the rules that have been in place for a long time because they keep the state safe.
