Trial Begins for John Moore Accused of Fatally Shooting Teenager
Prosecutor Highlights Allegations of Cover-Up in Fatal Shooting Case
According to Action News5, in Memphis, Tennessee the trial of John Moore has begun. Moore aged 59 and a father is accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old James Parnell Jr. in 2021. The incident allegedly occurred when Moore found Parnell in a bedroom with his 14-year-old daughter leading to a deadly confrontation. She mentioned how no shell casings or blood were found where Parnell was found dead, suggesting Moore tried to cover up the evidence.

Defense Argues for Voluntary Manslaughter in Fatal Shooting Trial
Defense lawyer Joseph McClusky argued that Moore acted out of distress upon finding Parnell with his daughter. McClusky said Moore believed he was protecting his daughter when he fired the fatal shots. Despite the tragic result McClusky suggested that Moore should not be charged with first-degree murder but with voluntary manslaughter given the circumstances and the emotional turmoil involved.
The trial includes emotional testimonies and a close look at evidence to determine what caused Parnell’s death and what charges Moore should face. Moore denies guilt for first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The court case raises important issues about parental duty self-defense and the tragic result of a critical moment involving teenagers.
