Chicago Mayor Looks to Federal Reserves and City Budget for Additional Migrant Care Assistance

According to ABC7 CHICAGO, Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson wants the City Council to approve $70 million more to help migrant care in the city. Even though fewer migrants are coming now, the mayor is getting ready for more, especially with the Democratic National Convention coming up. The money would come from leftover federal funds and the city’s budget, but they say it won’t affect other things they’re spending money on.

Concerns Raised Over Migrant Care Funding Proposal

Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa says they need the extra money because more migrants might come before the DNC. He thinks Republicans might send more buses to Chicago to make trouble. Some City Council members worry about spending so much on migrant care but the mayor hopes they’ll agree to it. The mayor’s office wants to get enough support to vote on the money next week.
