Community Concerns and Law Enforcement Response
Residents in the area expressed relief at the police intervention citing ongoing disturbances caused by the illegal aliens described as squatters in the building. Alfred Munoz, a local lamented the disruptive presence and efforts of the building’s owner to remove the illegal aliens. Moreover, several of the suspects were already known to law enforcement with ties to alleged criminal activities spanning multiple states. Miguel Vaamondes-Barrios, for instance, faced previous charges related to retail theft and had a bail set at $25,000 while Alborno was previously arrested for carrying a loaded firearm. Despite prior run-ins with the law including an incident where Desousa allegedly shot another immigrant during an argument in Yonkers, some suspects like Desousa and Alborno were released without bail after the raid. However, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell emphasized that cases against Desousa and Alborno remain open the underlining ongoing efforts to address criminal activities and ensure public safety in The Bronx and beyond.
