Arizona Launches Historic Direct File Program for Free Electronic Tax Filing
Arizona Launches Groundbreaking Free Tax Filing Program, Pioneering Federal-State Integration
Daily Courier – Starting March 12, eligible taxpayers in Arizona can file their tax returns electronically for free using the new Direct File tool and File Your State Taxes. This exciting program, a first in US history, lets taxpayers conveniently file both federal and state returns online. Developed in partnership with Code for America the platform undergoes final testing, promising 24/7 accessibility. However, those who received the Arizona Families Tax Rebate in 2023 won’t be able to use Direct File due to reporting limitations.
Arizona joins a select group of states in piloting the IRS Direct File program, aiming to streamline federal and state tax filing processes. Through Direct File taxpayers can first file their federal returns and then seamlessly e-file their state returns via File Your State Taxes. Eligibility is limited to individuals with common income sources and specific tax credits, excluding certain credits and deductions.
States Unite to Revolutionize Tax Filing Experience for Americans
The initiative marks a significant stride toward a more integrated federal-state tax system. Alongside New York, Massachusetts, and California, Arizona pioneers the effort to simplify tax filing nationwide. By collaborating with the IRS and leveraging technology, these states pave the way for a smoother tax experience for millions of Americans in the years to come.
