According to Southwest Journal, South Dakota shines. It has several open rooms and a fascinating history. Have you considered relocating there? If so, let me share some critical lessons I acquired there. From the Black Hills to the kind people, South Dakota has a certain appeal.

- South Dakota has no income tax and a moderate 1.32% property tax. Sales tax is affordable at 4.5%. South Dakota has tax breaks which makes starting a business easier.
- Rent or buy a property. At $696 a month, renting is cheaper than owning at $1,255. South Dakota real estate is reasonable, so you have options.
- Life is inexpensive in SD. All items are 88.3% cheaper. You can eat out, have fun, and save money.
- Both East and West South Dakota have different weather. Rain falls more evenly in the east due to humidity. Dryer West has more sun and less rain. You must be ready for both when driving.
- Job hunting is easy in South Dakota. The state’s economy ranks 27th nationwide. Employment is available nationwide, and the average wage is $29,611.
- You need a car in South Dakota because of poor transit. Quiet roads make driving easy. Road trips and breathtaking views are best with a car.
- Both Mount Rushmore and Badlands National Park are notable South Dakota attractions. Also interesting are Crazy Horse Memorial and Wind Cave National Park.
- Food in South Dakota is varied and tasty. Sanaa’s Gourmet in Sioux Falls and Jerry’s Cakes in Rapid City had delicious donuts. Crow Peak Brewing’s Pile O’ Dirt Porter is great, and Sturgis’ Full Throttle Saloon is fun at night.
- Many South Dakota parks please nature lovers. Custer State Park is huge and weekend-friendly. Roughlock Falls State Nature Center and Palisades State Park are less known.
- South Dakota museums educate Native American art and culture. Akta Lakota Museum and Redlin Art Center were fun. Hill City’s Wades Gold Mill let me pan for gold and see vintage mining machinery.
- Unique South Dakota products include Wall Drug with a big dinosaur and mounted jackalopes. Amazing Porter Sculpture Park. Ancient, ghost-filled Hotel Alex Johnson was my lodging.
- Moving to South Dakota demands planning. Declare your move, get aid, and pack. Tidy up your old property. Moving is an experience, not merely relocation.
- There are various ways to go to SD. Piano and art packages and more are offered. Moving services are accessible last minute.
- Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota tribes have long lived in South Dakota. The Lakota enjoy the Black Hills. Bear Butte State Park embodies Native Americans’ earth connection.
- Powwows and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally are held in South Dakota. Great experiences at Sioux Falls JazzFest and Sisseton Winter Show.
- Good universities include USD and SDSU. At Oglala Lakota College, they educate Native American traditions.
- South Dakota offers great outdoor activities. Fish or picnic, hike. Weekend snowboarding and skiing in Spearfish Canyon are spectacular. Lake ice fishing is pleasant and peaceful.
