Around 100,000 Americans in New York will receive free money from the $328 million settlement, according to the New York Attorney General.
$328 Million Settlement in New York
New York Attorney General Letitia James announced on Thursday that around 100,000 Americans will receive free money from the $328 settlement. This is after the state found Uber and Lyft guilty of pocketing the money of their workers.
In a published article in The U.S. Sun, there are two settlements—$290 million from Uber and $38 million from Lyft- that will be distributed to qualified drivers working for the mentioned companies. However, there is still no exact date when these will be distributed.

Statement from the New York Attorney General
According to a published article in the Democrat and Chronicle, New York Attorney General Letitia James said, “For years, Uber and Lyft systematically cheated their drivers out of hundreds of millions of dollars in pay and benefits while they worked long hours in challenging conditions.”
Furthermore, there will be more changes after the settlement and these include the following:
- Minimum $26 per hour pay floor
- Mandatory accrual of paid sick leave up to 56 hours per year
- More transparency in payment processes
