A US Capitol Police spokesperson said that officials think everyone went through security and entered the US Capitol specifically at the Cannon House Office Building according to procedures.
Many of those who entered a US Capitol last Wednesday afternoon have been arrested after representing to demand a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war
The US Capitol Police said that officials believe every person went through security and entered the US Capitol which is open to the public. They go through security screenings. However, demonstrations are not permitted inside congressional buildings, police US Capitol say.
Protesters demonstrated inside the US Capitol singing, praying, holding signs and banners, and chanting “Ceasefire now!” were all arrested. Almost 300 people were in US Capitol police custody.
US Capitol Police Officers were still processing the arrests of the protestors, so they don’t have exact numbers yet. Among those arrested, three have been charged with assault on a police officer during the booking process.
The US Capitol Police said they warned the protestors to stop demonstrating and when the protestors did not obey, they began arresting the protestors
The rally was hosted by Jewish Voice for Peace, which led a massive crowd from the National Mall to the US Capitol in the afternoon. The protest inside Cannon began at about 2:30 p.m. and participated at about 300 to 400 protesters inside the US Capitol building.
At the scene, the reports described protesters as peacefully taking over the rotunda to risk arrest and call the legislature’s attention, to get them to provision the ceasefire.
