South Korea and Russia are set to finalize the termination of space-related contracts between the two countries.

South Korea and Russia to Terminate Space-Related Contracts

According to SPACE, South Korea and Russia will be terminating space-related contracts. This means that the Korean rockets to launch satellites will need to find a new route to space.

South Korea and Russia have been negotiating terms of termination of the launch contract. Now, the process of the termination of space-related contracts is nearly complete. However, details of the termination and talks about the contract have not been disclosed to the public.

Currently, Russia is looking to countries, including Iran, under a sanctions regime for business after losing several commercial launch contracts following the war on Ukraine.

South Korea and Russia: South Korea Needs to Find New Route to Space

According to Korea Times, the international sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine have led to the cancellation of a planned launch of two Korean satellites using Russian rockets in 2022.

The Korea Multipurpose Satellite 6 and the next-generation mid-size satellite Compact Advanced Satellite 500-2 were both developed by Korea. As South Korea and Russia end the contracts, South Korea will now need to find a new route to space due to the international sanctions against Russia.
