Following the detention of a suspect in Tupac Shakur’s murder, Jada Pinkett Smith responds. The iconic rapper, who passed away on September 13, 1996, was drive-by shot by Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who was taken into custody by Las Vegas police. The Emmy-winning actress and talk show presenter made her statement on social media last Friday, September 29. “R.I.P. Pac,” Pinkett Smith posted on Instagram.

Alleged Suspect Charged with Murder on the Death of Tupac Shakur

After Davis, 60 years old, was arrested and charged with the high-profile murder on the Las Vegas strip, the Girls Trip star posted hours later. The murder has been the focus of many documentaries, investigative TV shows, novels, and hypotheses about who killed the then-25-year-old MC. Pinkett Smith and the rapper were friends for years. Since Tupac’s death, she has repeatedly recounted her memories with him publicly. In 2017, Pinkett Smith disclosed that she met the rapper as a drug dealer, and in 2021, she shared an unpublished “Dear Mama” poem. After Pac’s sexual assault conviction, Pinkett Smith paid $100,000 for his bail and starred in his “Keep Ya Head Up” and “Temptations” music videos. Despite never dating, the two stars’ tight connection has been debated, especially after her and Smith’s “entanglement” scandals.

Pinkett Smith posted a cute video of her and Shakur lip-syncing to DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s 1988 classic “Parents Just Don’t Understand” earlier this month. “I never thought the Fresh Prince and I would become close. “I never imagined three lives and fates so intertwined,” she posted on Instagram. “I never expected this film would be a concrete reminder of our childhood together. Pac and I lip-synced Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince’s Parents Just Don’t Understand in high school junior year. Who knew?” The caption may be an excerpt from Pinkett Smith’s Oct. 17 memoir Worthy.
