The nations of Japan and the United States have joined forces to develop an interceptor missile that can successfully neutralize hypersonic warheads.

According to Japan Today, Japan and US to jointly develop interceptor missile to combat hypersonic warheads that China, Russia, and North Korea are creating.
The agreement is expected to be made during a meeting between President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, where they also meet with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol for a trilateral summit.

The Agreement of Japan and US to Jointly Develop Interceptor Missile
According to Reuters, in a January meeting, the United States and Japan discussed the potential development of an interceptor. The meeting was attended by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin from the US, and their counterparts, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada.
If a consensus is reached, it would be the second instance of both nations working together on missile defense technology.
Washington and Tokyo governments have worked together to develop a missile with an increased range, specially designed to target warheads in space. Japan has taken the initiative in deploying these missiles on its warships, situated in the sea between Japan and the Korean peninsula. This strategic move serves as a defense mechanism against potential missile attacks from North Korea.
