According to Southwest Journal, thinking about moving to Ohio? Be aware while it’s got lovely parks and cities, some places might not be very safe. RoadSnacks used FBI data to find out which Ohio cities have more crime. It’s not fair to blame the people living there for the high crime rates though. Ohio’s had some economic changes and struggles with drug issues. If you’re considering one of these places think about adding security cameras to your home for extra safety. So, as you enjoy some Skyline Chili and Buckeyes, let’s look at Ohio’s most dangerous spots.

Ohio’s Most Dangerous Cities

Canton

Leading our list is Canton the most dangerous place to live in Ohio. With around 70,124 people and located near Akron, Canton has a big problem with crime. It’s third in burglaries statewide meaning there’s a high chance of property crime happening. Also, Canton faces a lot of violent crime, like rape, ranking second in Ohio for that.

Moraine

Next is Moraine, part of the Dayton Metro Area. Despite having only 6,478 people Moraine struggles with lots of crime ranking second highest in Ohio. It’s especially bad for property crime, ranking second in the state. Sadly there are also issues with violent crime, like murders, putting Moraine in the top 15 for that.

Cleveland

Cleveland, the second largest city in Ohio, is renowned for attractions like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, yet living there comes with risks. In 2020, it topped the charts for having the highest rate of violent crime in the state, translating to a significant likelihood of harm. Moreover, residents also face considerable challenges with property crime, further complicating life in the city.

Springfield

Moving to Springfield, about half an hour from Dayton, it’s the fourth most dangerous city in Ohio. It has a big issue with burglaries, meaning there’s a high chance of theft or property damage. But if you want a break from the city’s problems, you can visit Buck Creek State Park.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth, located in south-central Ohio, faces tough times due to its shrinking population and economic struggles. Once a bustling industrial hub, it now deals with a lot of crime, especially burglaries. It’s a reminder of the challenges the city needs to overcome.

Dayton

Finally, Dayton, Ohio’s sixth largest city, deals with its share of crime problems. It has a lot of burglaries and car thefts, making it hard to feel safe. Plus, there’s a high rate of violent crime, like murders and rapes. Dayton needs to work on making its neighborhoods safer for everyone.
