Former Russian soldier seeking asylum in the Netherlands testifies to the International Criminal Court about war crimes in Ukraine.
According to VOA News, it’s an interesting turn of events that sixty-year-old Russian soldier Igor Salikov has asked for refuge in the Netherlands. He has said that he is ready to talk to the International Criminal Court (ICC) about war crimes that he says he saw while serving in Ukraine. Besides that, Salikov said he had been a teacher for the Wagner military group while fighting in eastern Ukraine with Russian-backed troops. Even though the top war crimes investigator in Ukraine has confirmed Salikov’s proof, Russia has strongly denied that it did horrible things in Ukraine. Even though the Prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court has admitted getting information from Salikov, they have not said what that information is. It was in March that the court issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia. The court is now looking into claims of war crimes in Ukraine. When Salikov got to the Netherlands, he was ready to work with the International Criminal Court (ICC) exclusively, but he seems to have run into an unexpected delay in starting to work with them.
