Virginia Mother of 6-Year-Old Boy Who Shot His Elementary Teacher Sentenced to Two Years

A Virginia mother was sentenced on a felony child neglect charge, following her little child shooting his first-grade teacher.

Virginia Mother Sentenced to Prison for Child Neglect, Son Shot Elementary Teacher

According to ABC News, Deje Taylor, a Virginia mother pleaded guilty in August to state felony child neglect in connection with the January shooting at Rickneck Elementary School where her 6-year-old kid shot his elementary first-grade teacher.

Another misdemeanor charge of endangering a child by reckless storage of a firearm was dropped during the sentencing of the Virginia mother.

Virginia Mother Second Prison Sentence, Following Charges in November

According to NBC News, this was the second prison sentence of the Virginia mother which was connected with the shooting that involved her young child. However, in November, the Virginia mother was also sentenced to 21 months in prison after she pleaded guilty to federal charges of using marijuana while in possession of a firearm and making a false statement about her drug use during the purchase of the firearm.

The Virginia mother faces up to five years in prison on the child neglect charge. Moreover, the state sentence will be served consecutive to the 21-month sentence she is currently serving, in connection to her November sentencing.
