Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a new law that increases the minimum wage for workers and gives them other benefits.

Increase of Minimum Wage in Illinois

Workers in different fields across the country are calling for an increase in the minimum wage amidst the rising inflation rate. Over the past few months, states attempted to pass legislation that increases the minimum wage of workers and aims to help them financially stable.

In a published article in BALLER ALERT, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a bill into law that increases the minimum wage of workers. Beginning January 1, 2024, the minimum wage in the state will increase from $13 to $40, while tipped workers will also have an increase from $7.80 to $8.40.

Other Benefits

According to a report published in WREX, other bills were signed into law and will immediately take effect. These include the ‘Paid Leave for All Workers Act’ which mandates that employers provide paid time off to their employees for any reason. Employers will be required to grant paid time off to their workers based on their hours worked, without the need for employees to provide a specific explanation for their absence, as long as they adhere to reasonable employer notification standards.

Furthermore, a few of the signed bills into law are the Grocery Initiative Act, the Whole Child Act, HB1540, HB2431, and HB 3882.
