Ukraine promises to make changes to protect the environment after Russia invades, causing an extra $10 billion in CO2 emissions.
According to the Ukrainska Pravda, Ukraine is working to reduce the harmful effects of short-lived climate pollution (SLCPs), which are second only to carbon dioxide in their power to change the climate. This is part of Ukraine’s plan to change the climate as part of its move toward European union. Ukrainian officials say they will cut their methane pollution by 30% by 2030 if they sign the Global Methane Pledge. Using cutting edge technologies like hydrogen, the country is trying to become more modern and move toward the ideas of a cycle economy, which will help the environment in the long run. Because of these problems, the country is now dealing with the effects of a terrorist attack by Russia on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, which caused direct losses of at least $2 billion. The Ukrainian government hasn’t changed its mind about wanting to recover both the economy and the environment. It is still working through problems with a focus on making the future more secure and better for the environment.
