Kate Cox Faces Heartbreaking Pregnancy Dilemma Amidst Evolving Abortion Laws in Texas

In Austin, Texas, 31-year-old Kate Cox got sad news. She learned of her pregnancy’s poor prognosis, which projected a stillbirth or early death, as a loving mother of two.

Due to changing US abortion laws, she leads an extraordinary trial. Interestingly, a Texas judge originally authorized Cox to undergo an abortion. Many were unhappy when the state’s highest court postponed the verdict Friday night.

The Texas Supreme Court will decide whether Austin’s 20-week-pregnant Kate Cox may receive an abortion under the state’s restrictive exceptions. There is no judgment timetable from the nine Republican justices. First, because Roe v. Wade was overturned last year, Cox’s lawsuit seeks abortion permission. A pregnant Kentucky woman challenged it too. The Center for Reproductive Rights, representing Cox, argues Texas is playing political games and the battle continues.

Who is Kate Cox?

Kate Cox, who lives in Dallas with her husband and two small children, filed a complaint in Austin over her two cesarean deliveries. In October, physicians notified Cox that her baby is at risk for trisomy 18, a disorder with high miscarriage and stillbirth rates and poor survival chances.

“I really would love another baby,” Cox told NBC News this week after a lower court judge allowed her abortion. “So, I hope for my health, our family.”
