Tragic Turn: North Carolina City Denies Christmas Parade Permit Following Last Year’s Heartbreaking Loss of 11-Year-Old Girl

After the driver lost control, a pickup truck pulling an 11-year-old girl in North Carolina was murdered.

A truck pulling a float struck and killed a girl during the Christmas parade in North Carolina last year, prompting officials to deny a permit for the event.

According to news sources, the Raleigh city government declared on Thursday that it had turned down the Greater Raleigh Merchants Association’s application for permission to hold the Raleigh Christmas Parade.

“The decision was made out of an abundance of caution for parade participants and spectators, as well as respect for Hailey Brooks’ family and friends,” according to a statement from the city.

The previous year’s parade saw 11-year-old Hailey Brooks killed when the driver of a pickup truck hauling a float lost control and struck her. At the time, Landen Glass, then 20 years old, was facing misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, irresponsible driving, unsafe movement, unsuitable equipment, and carrying a handgun during a procession. His charges were upgraded to felony involuntary manslaughter by a grand jury in March.

Attorney Jason Miller claims that the Brooks family disagrees with the decision to refuse the parade permit and that they were not consulted.

“The Brooks family is disappointed that the City of Raleigh chose to cancel its 2023 Raleigh Christmas Parade rather than adopt basic safety measures to protect the community,” Miller stated.

“The Brooks family is disappointed that the City of Raleigh chose to cancel its 2023 Raleigh Christmas Parade rather than adopt basic safety measures to protect the community,” Miller stated.

Executive Director Jennifer Martin expressed her sadness over the decision on behalf of the merchant group.

“The parade has been a Raleigh tradition for 78 years that brings the community together, provides joy to hundreds of thousands, and allows families near and far to make countless memories,” she stated in a press release. As soon as Raleigh “allows it to return,” the association is “ready, willing, and able to continue this tradition,” according to Martin.

Raging Portland Driver Tears Through Rose Parade in Furious Video

In Portland, Oregon, Sidney Mecham “nearly collides with dozens of pedestrians, including small children,” according to recently released footage.

In recent dashcam footage, revelers at the city’s annual Rose Festival were forced to scurry for shelter before eluding police as a furious guy from Portland drove his Chevy through a packed parade.

Sidney Mecham, 42, has been without legal representation since August, according to his previous defense attorney, Chris Howard, who spoke with Fox News Digital. This is because there is a dearth of public defenders in Oregon.

Judith Matarazzo, the circuit judge for Multnomah County, approved Mecham’s preventative detention, and during the August hearing, the video was entered into the court file.

According to charges obtained by Fox News Digital from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, Mecham has been detained in Inverness Jail in Northeast Portland since the incident on June 10. The charges include 38 felonies for attempted assault, multiple counts of unlawful use of a weapon, attempted assault on a police officer, and attempting to elude law enforcement by vehicle.

According to the allegations, one person was almost struck by the man’s Chevy Avalanche in each of the 17 instances of unauthorized use of a weapon.
