Oklahoma is ranked ninth in the country for being the most dangerous place to live, according to RoadSnacks. Based on FBI crime statistics, the review of 73 towns shows that crime numbers are not all the same. Even with all the problems, Piedmont is still the best city, so the people who live there should keep loving their peaceful surroundings. For people who don’t live in Piedmont, the list below shows places where safety might be at risk, which can help them make better decisions.

1. Tulsa

It is still true that Tulsa, Oklahoma, will be the most dangerous place in the state in 2023. With 72 killings in 2020, Tulsa has the second-highest rate of serious crime in the country. There is an 88/100 chance that a resident will be a victim of theft, rape, attack, or murder. There is also a problem with property theft. In 2020, 4,407 burglaries were recorded. With 402,166 people, the city has the second-highest rates of serious and property crime in the state. This shows that the community needs to be more aware of crime and take more steps to stop it.

2. Idabel

Crime rates are going up in Idabel, Oklahoma, which is different from what’s happening across the country. The area has the highest rate of property crime in the state, so there is a 1 in 15 chance that someone will steal from them or damage their property. It’s worth mentioning that Idabel’s property crime rate is higher than the state average. The city has the highest murder rate and the fourth-highest rate of rape in Oklahoma, even though it ranks fourth for crime. People who go to the Little River National Wildlife Refuge should be careful and get back home early.

That’s 6,827 people.
Rank from the previous year: 2
952 violent crimes per 100,000 people (fourth most dangerous)
The number of property crimes per 100,000 people is 6,386.

3. Anadarko

A mistake in name changed the planned monument to the Nadaco tribe in Anadarko, Oklahoma, into a different historical oddity. This town in central Oklahoma, which is about 50 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, has a lot of problems because it is the third-most dangerous place in the state. High rates of theft, burglary, and violent crimes make Anadarko a troublesome place to live. The town has problems that go beyond its strange name.

No. of people: 6,473
Rank: 14 (Up 11) Last Year
Crimes against people every 100,000: 926 (fifth most dangerous)
5,020 property crimes per 100,000 people (third most dangerous)

4. Ardmore

Crime rates have gone up in Ardmore, Oklahoma, making it the fourth most dangerous city in the world in 2023. The city now has the sixth-highest violent crime rate in the state. Both violent and property crimes have gone up. This includes about four violent acts a week, most of which are serious attacks. If you want to do things like camping at Lake Murray State Park, you should bring someone with you to lower your risk of getting hurt. Ardmore is known for the notorious murder of Denice Haraway in 1984, which led to Tommy Ward and Karl Fontenot being wrongfully convicted. This case was the subject of John Grisham’s book “The Innocent Man” and a Netflix program.

5. Ponca City

Ponca City was once a successful oil town in north-central Oklahoma. In the early 1910s, when oil prices were high, the city’s economy did well. But the city’s progress has stopped, and there are now 23,484 fewer people living there than there were in 1970. Sadly, the number of crimes has gone up, especially thefts and break-ins.

Number of people: 23,484
11th place last year (up 6)
770 violent crimes per 100,000 people (eighth most dangerous)

6. Hugo

Hugo has an interesting past as the winter home of about 20 moving shows. It is now the sixth most dangerous place in Oklahoma. The town used to have a cute circus history, but in recent years it has gotten a bad name for having a lot of fires and thefts, which worries the people who live there.

That’s 5,067 people.
Rank: 13 (Up 7) Last Year

7. Pauls Valley

Pauls Valley is the seventh-most dangerous place in Oklahoma. It is an hour south of Oklahoma City and has the second-highest number of thefts in the state. On average, one property crime happens there every day. Even though there are only 6,111 people living in the city, the crime rate is very high. The neighborhood Toy and Action Figure Museum is interesting, but I hope it is well protected against thieves who might try to steal from it. On the plus side, Pauls Valley is the safest place on this list, even though it ranks eighth for property crime. In the city’s darker past, the murder of Chanda Turner in 2000 is still unsolved. At first, the death was thought to be a suicide, but her parents fought for a reexamination in 2013 and it was changed to a murder.

Number of people: 6,111
Rank: 10 (Up 3) Last Year
Crimes against people every 100,000: 687 (11th most dangerous)
4,401 property crimes per 100,000 people (eighth most dangerous).

8. Del City

Even though Del City isn’t on the list of Oklahoma City’s best neighborhoods, its high crime rate is a big reason why it wasn’t included. In 2020, there is a 1 in 100 chance that someone will be a victim of violent crime in the city, which is third in the state for that crime. The 792 recorded property crimes add to the problems the Del City Police Department already has to deal with. This shows how important it is to be more alert and work to keep the neighborhood safe.

Number of people: 21,750

9. Muskogee

Even though Muskogee has some cool things to see, like a castle and a submarine, it has a lot of crime and is the most dangerous place in Oklahoma. In 2020, people who lived in the city had an 82% chance of being victims of a violent crime. The city also has the ninth-most reported rapes in the state. With an average of one break-in every day of the year, Muskogee residents are still very worried about their safety.

The number of violent crimes per 100,000 people is 1,209.
3,500 property crimes per 100,000 people (21st most dangerous).

10. Oklahoma City

Even though crime rates have gone down a little, Oklahoma City is still on this list because other places have seen better progress. More than one murder and more than one rape happen every day in the city, which has the ninth-highest serious crime rate in the country. The study also said that more than ten cars were stolen every day, adding up to 25,853 property crimes in the year. People are told to stay in safer areas to stay away from crime.

Number of people: 663,661
Rank: 9 (Down 1) Last Year
Crimes against people every 100,000: 725 (ninth most dangerous)
Break-ins per 100,000 people: 3,895 (13th most dangerous)

The Oklahoma City Bombing (1995): A Dark Day in History

The Oklahoma City bombing, which happened on April 19, 1995, is the worst crime in Oklahoma’s history. It was a well-known act of domestic terrorism. The attack happened at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building and killed 168 people, including 19 children. It also hurt over 500 other people. Before the terrible events of September 11, 2001, this terrible act of internal terrorism was the deadliest in U.S. history. The Oklahoma City bombing shocked people all over the country and led to major changes in security and police processes to stop similar crimes from happening again. This terrible day will always be remembered by everyone in the country.
