At a meeting of the Contact Group to focus on capability partnership, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin pushed for Ukraine to have better air defense.
Representatives of the Ukraine Contact Group were asked by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to give Ukraine air defense weapons. Before the talks on a “capability coalition,” the request was made to make Ukraine’s defenses stronger against Russia’s land attack cruise missiles. Getting more goods has been hard, even though Kyiv has been working hard with the S-300 and 9K37 Buk systems.
A partnership grows, and people around the world are getting ready for strategy talks that will try to make Ukraine’s defense system better. Getting help with air defense shows how important it is for Ukraine to be safe from new threats around the world. Secretary Austin has made this the most important topic for the Ukraine Contact Group to talk about with other countries.
The US is working with Raytheon to improve the Buk system, but they still haven’t found a way to fix the S-300. In recognition of past wins, Austin thanked France and Germany for letting the air defense alliance hold video talks. With Germany supporting Israel’s Arrow 3 and France supporting MBDA in the European Sky Shield Initiative, there is still disagreement among European countries. Even though there were worries about interceptor losses, Germany and nine other countries agreed in October to buy a full air defense system from Israel that would include Arrow-3, IRIS-T, and Patriot Systems to defend against Russia’s hypersonic Kinzhal missiles in Ukraine.
