On Monday, the pop star Shakira reached a deal with Spanish authorities, avoiding prison sentence on the first day of Shakira tax fraud trial in Barcelona.
Shakira Tax Fraud Trial: Shakira Avoids Prison Sentence by Reaching a Deal with Prosecutors
According to Fresnobee, Shakira avoided the risk of a prison sentence when she reached a deal with prosecutors on the first day of the Shakira tax fraud trial.
Shakira admitted that she failed to pay the Spanish government of 14.5 million euros in taxes between 2012 and 2014. Moreover, the pop star told the magistrate, Jose Manuel del Amo that she reached an agreement with the prosecutors.
The deal plays a big part in the Shakira tax fraud trial as the pop star is now able to suspend a three-year sentence and a fine of 7 million euros.

Shakira Tax Fraud Trial Called of Due to the Deal
According to AP News, the Shakira tax fraud trial, which would have included more than 100 witnesses over the following weeks was called off after just eight minutes because of the deal she made with the prosecutors.
The Shakira tax fraud trial was due to her staying in Spain for more than half of her life and therefore must pay taxes on her worldwide income in the country even though her official residence is still in Bahamas.
