$62 Million Grants for College Students
State Governor Maura Healey announced that an amount of $62 million will be granted to students from public community colleges, the University of Massachusetts, and other state public universities. This is called MASSGrant Plus Expansion program and will cover the the costs of books, fees, and tuition for qualifying Pell Grant students.
In a published article in The U.S. Sun, the U.S. Department of Education said, “The Federal Pell Grant is typically given to students headed to college who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree.”
Other Information About the MASSGrant
According to an article published in NBC Boston, Governor Healey said, “For so many Massachusetts residents, higher education can be the ticket to their future career and economic stability. This expansion of MASSGrant Plus will open doors for more students to access higher education, which will strengthen our economy as a whole.”
Furthermore, the MASSGrant Plus Expansion will only cover the books, fees, and tuition fees but not the payment for room and board. An amount of $1,200 will also be given to recipients that will be alotted for books and other supplies.
