15-30 Years in prison as He Pleads Guilty
Joshua Wirgau is one of two men accused of murdering 31-year-old Abby Hill in 2021 to keep her from discussing the death of 17-year-old Brynn Bills a month earlier. The crimes occurred in northern Michigan’s Alpena. Wirgau, 36, buried Bills on his property. He admitted disinterment and mutilation of a corpse, criminal accessory after the fact, and involuntary manslaughter on Thursday. He was originally charged with first-degree murder, criminal firearm possession, and felony firearm use.
Wirgau’s plea deal asks for 15-30 years in prison and cooperation in prosecuting Bills’ murderer, Brad Srebnik. Srebnik, 37, faces two first-degree murder charges and one each of disinterment and mutilation of a corpse, felony firearm possession, and criminal firearm use. The Michigan Department of Attorney General called Srebnik and Wirgau “habitual offenders” and stated the state police had “identified Srebnik, Wirgau, and Hill as being involved in the disappearance of Bills,” adding that “Hill was the last person to see Bills alive.” Srebnik and Wirgau were charged with murder while serving two years for felony handgun possession, downgraded from abduction in plea bargains. Criminal business and drug manufacturing and delivery were also Srebnik’s convictions. Wirgau also got a criminal sexual behavior conviction.
