Tropical Storm Tammy formed Wednesday, and the FOX Forecast Centre is watching it. It may bring tropical downpours and gusty winds to the northern Leeward Islands.

Possibility of Another Developing Tropical Storm
Hurricane season is going slightly over average with barely 20% left. This season has seen 20 tropical storms, six of which became hurricanes. Three hurricanes were major. From June 1 to November 30, the Atlantic hurricane season averages 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes. Tropical Storm Tammy is located 600 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. This cyclone is traveling west and will gradually veer west-northwest over the following day.
The last report showed persistent winds around 40 mph and greater gusts. Before reaching the Lesser Antilles, the cyclone is forecast to strengthen over the next 48 hours but remain below hurricane classification. Caribbean Sea islands are near the Northern Antilles, therefore Tropical Storm watches and warnings may be issued soon. Barbados, Dominica, Martinique, and Guadeloupe are under Tropical Storm Watch.
Puerto Rico, where squally weather is forecast this weekend, is not under watch. Tropical Storm Watches are issued when sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph are possible within 48 hours. These winds may cause storm surge and coastal flooding. The NHC anticipates the tropical cyclone to strengthen and move west-northwest. The cyclone could become a major tropical storm in the Lesser Antilles on Friday. The projected cone includes the U.S. Virgin Islands as the cyclone turns north during the weekend. Tammy should be pulled north by a frontal boundary but avoid the Lower 48. Tammy might intensify and become the season’s seventh hurricane when it leaves the northern Caribbean.
