According to The Hill, as tensions between Israel and Hamas reached new heights, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin took swift action by placing more than 2,000 military personnel on standby to provide support and aid if needed.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated on Fox News that the troops are ready to deploy. However, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has not mentioned the decision to deploy the forces, and no orders have been handed down.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin Extends USS Gereal R. Ford Deployment to Deter Iran
According to Al-Monitor, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has decided to prolong the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Forces in carrying a strike group in the eastern Mediterranean to deter Iran from joining the Israel and Hamas conflict.
However, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin noted that the troops would not perform in combat.
The US actions have received criticism and threats from the Iran leader stating that the US must be held responsible for the current situation happening in Gaza.
