Patricia White Sentenced to Spend Years in Prison

Patricia White, a 50-year-old Charleston woman, was sentenced to 8 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty in July to voluntary manslaughter and second-degree arson, Metro News reported.

The news reported that Patricia White was mad at her husband when she started a fire at the house on MacCorkle Avenue in February 2022, but the husband was fortunate because he wasn’t inside during the time of the blaze. The firefighters who responded to the fire found the body of Dennis Rutledge, 52 at that time, on the second floor.

Patricia White also admitted to a decade-long addiction and was high when she set the fire, which she apologized for during Monday’s sentencing.

Patricia White to Only Spend 8 Years Despite Being Guilty of Two Crimes

According to WOWKTV, Patricia White will only spend eight years in prison despite being guilty of two crimes, which are voluntary manslaughter – which she is supposed to spend 8 years in prison – and four years for second-degree arson.

The judge stated that there was no reason for Patricia White to serve the prison back-to-back as her crimes were done in a single act.

Patricia White also apologized to the victim and the victim’s family and vowed to get inpatient treatment to sober up her life.
