Three Heads of Utilities in San Francisco had been found guilty of fraud under a federal corruption probe. The jury had already given them verdicts.
Harlan Kelly, former head of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, was convicted by the jury of six out of eight charges of two fraud schemes.
Kelly’s verdict was released last Friday according to the report of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Based on the court proceedings, it was revealed that Kelly tried to steer a city streetlight project to a contractor in exchange for the construction of Kelly’s home which will have a meager construction service fee.
Kelly’s case was the latest among other fraud cases that had been given verdicts.
Two Other Head Utilities That Were Proven Guilty Of Fraud
Mohammed Nuru, former director of the public works department of San Francisco, had been given a verdict also by federal prosecutors because of his fraud case.
Nuru was sentenced to a 7-year imprisonment for accepting gifts in exchange for public contracts according to the report of San Francisco Standard.
Nuru, who pleaded guilty to steering public contracts and accepting expensive gifts will be serving a 7-year imprisonment sentence.
With the same fraud case, Bernard Curran was also sentenced last Friday to one year and one day in federal prison.
Curran pleaded guilty to accepting payments in connection with his work duties as a senior city building inspector.
