You don’t want mice anywhere near trucks. From chewing on wires to nesting under the back seat, they can do a lot ofdamage. But in one state you could go to jail for up to a year for killing a mouse in your truck.
Wyoming might send you to jail for killing a mouse in your truck
Many states have odd traffic laws. However, Wyoming might send you to jail for an entire year for killing a mouse in your truck.
According to Cowboy State Daily, the fine for trapping mice in a vehicle is up to $10,000. State Representative, Bill Allenmand is sponsoring House Bill 211 to clarify the law.
Allenmand doesn’t want people to get charged for things like shooting prairie dogs from inside their trucks or setting mousetraps in a vehicle.
He won’t change and wording to include an animal that doesn’t require a license to hunt or isn’t protected or endangered under state or federal law. But it is currently legal to shoot animals that are classified as predatory from inside a vehicle in Wyoming.
Under the current statute, police officers can take you to jail for killing almost any critter inside of your vehicle. While you can shoot predators like coyotes and wolves from inside your vehicle, drivers and passengers can’t shoot prairie dogs.
Also, it’s not illegal to put a mouse trap on the floorboard of your vehicle because mice are eating the wiring. But it is illegal to catch a mouse.
Animals such as prairie dogs and mice don’t fall under any specific classification but are still illegal to kill. Allenmand hopes that House Bill 211 will save drivers from potentially getting in trouble for shooting varmints in their vehicles or trying to control vermin.
