Casey Colvin had been working on Tuesday when evacuation orders had been circulated in the Pacific Palisades areas. Colvin spent four hours fighting traffic to return to his home to rescue his two dogs, but firefighters wouldn’t let him into the area.
One sympathetic firefighter offered to help and went to Colvin’s home, broke down the front door and was able to rescue one of his dogs – Tika Tika Tika, however his other dog, a Pomeranian Casey had rescued from an abusive situation named Oreo, had fled before the fireman could capture him.
Colvin’s house was destroyed by the fire, but he wouldn’t give up on finding Oreo. Reports from neighbors indicated they had spotted the dog.

Popular independent rescuer, Cathi Perez had been with Casey when a report came in that Oreo had been spotted. Cathi recounts the heartwarming reunion.

OREO IS SAFE!!! We spent all day yesterday trying to get in the fire zone and search for him, we made it in but were not able to find him
This morning Casey Colvin got a call that someone had eyes on him, and we raced there!
Once we were in we went to the “house”, which is no longer standing and there he was at the top of the neighbor’s driveway!
He stared in disbelief, is that you Daddy? Then a slow walk turned into a tail wagging run!!!
Check out the video:

As soon as Cathi and Casey left the rubble with Oreo safely in his dad’s arms, they went to meet and thank the fireman who broke the door down and freed both dogs just moments before the fire came over the hill and burned his home to the ground. Had the fireman not arrived, both dogs would have died in the flames.

Cathi and Casey are grateful; just a rainbow after the storm and life finds a way.

It’s a beautiful day and Oreo is safe!!!
Thank you to all the first responders out there who run towards the danger protecting us all!
Thank you to many people who helped get Oreo safe!
Thank you @lizkreutznews !!!
