Sledding Family Targeted: Tennessee Man Arrested for Shooting at Snow Day Revelers

WPBN: There are charges being brought against a guy in Tennessee who is accused of opening fire on a family that was sledding in the snow.

The man claims that the family was on his property at the time of the incident.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has stated that Benjamin Cook is being charged with six counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.

Depending on the findings of the inquiry, more charges can be brought against the defendant.

Following a report that a man was shooting at a family of six who were playing outdoors in the snow, deputies were dispatched to the 6300 block of Stoney River Drive on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies stated that preliminary information gathered from the site indicated that the parents and their four children decided to walk down the street in order to go sledding down a slope that was located in their area.

However, the family reported hearing gunshots at approximately 11:30 a.m., and they thought they were coming from the area of a residence that was located down the hill near the 10400 block of Birchwood Pike.

The mother reported that she saw snow flying up from the ground just a few feet away from her kid, who was one year old at the time.

After the shots were fired, the parents quickly turned their attention to the direction from where they were coming and called at a guy, who was later determined to be Cook, to stop shooting.

In response to the man’s assertion that the family was on his property, the family stated that they were not on his property.

Following that, the family went home, retrieved their possessions, and then reported the event to the authorities.

Deputy sheriffs went to the residence of the gunman and had a conversation with Cook.

In addition, they were able to acquire photographs from a neighbor that showed Cook going through the woods while wearing clothing that matched his outfit and carrying a black gun slung across his back.

After then, Cook was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.

It was also discovered via the inquiry that the family was not present on Cook’s property at the time that he started shooting.

The execution of a search warrant at Cook’s residence resulted in the discovery of multiple firearms within the premises.
